Do I have to withdraw my pillar 3a upon reaching reference age?
Basically, as soon as you reach regular reference age, the withdrawal of your 3a money is due.
However, there is one exception: If you work beyond the reference age and continue to have an income subject to OASI, you can defer the payout a little longer. However, only up to five years at the latest after reaching your regular reference age. After that, the money will definitely be paid out.
Regular reference age is currently defined as follows:
Men: Reference age = 65 years.
Women: A bit more special due to the AHV reform:
Born in 1961 = Reference age 64 years and 3 months.
Born in 1962 = Reference age 64 years and 6 months.
Born in 1963 = Reference age 64 years and 9 months.
Born in 1964 and later = Reference age 65 years.
